An invention is a technical finding in any field of human activity that relates to product (in particular, a device, substance, strain of microorganism, cell culture of plants or animals) or to technology.

Legal protection is afforded to the invention if it is novel, if it has inventive level, and is industrially practicable (article 1350 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation).

The protective document is Patent.

The duration of a patent in the RF is 20 years, provided payment of annual patent taxes.

It is possible to extend the duration of a patent for drugs, pesticides, and agrochemicals, according to paragraph 2 of Article 1363 of the CC RF.
